The business challenge

CI scoring needs more than a calculator. It needs reliable data from the field.

National Sorghum Producers needed a way to help growers participate in emerging carbon intensity scoring and USDA programs without turning data collection into a barrier.

That meant building a consistent digital process across states, onboarding producers quickly, and managing the accuracy and validation of diverse field-level datasets. The program also needed a path to move information beyond the farm to ethanol plants and other downstream participants.

01 / ADOPTION

Grower onboarding at scale

Make participation practical for hundreds of producers with different levels of digital experience.

02 / DATA CONFIDENCE

Consistent, usable records

Collect and quality-check agricultural information needed for credible CI scoring and program reporting.

03 / CONNECTION

From farm to fuel

Create the infrastructure to share field-level sustainability information across the ethanol supply chain.

The Corvian solution

One managed program. Technology, onboarding and delivery working together.

Corvian combined customized FarmCommand® workflows with a Managed Services model. Rather than asking NSP to operate a standalone tool, the teams built a supported process for collecting, checking and preparing grower data for CI scoring.

01 / DIGITAL WORKFLOW

Customized CI scoring workflows

Adapted FarmCommand® to support the program's field-level data collection and carbon intensity requirements.

02 / GROWER ENABLEMENT

Training and direct support

Equipped NSP staff and producers through training sessions and access to Corvian subject matter experts.

03 / DATA OPERATIONS

Quality assurance and process management

Managed backend processes and data QA to help produce consistent, usable scoring datasets.

04 / DOWNSTREAM READINESS

Infrastructure for data exchange

Initiated pilots with ethanol partners to establish the framework for field-to-fuel traceability.

Documented project results

From program design to grower participation in under five months.

The first season established a working model for deploying CI scoring infrastructure across U.S. sorghum production—with operational support built into the program.

400+ growers onboarded

A multi-state program launched in less than five months, bringing producers into a unified digital workflow.

2024 datasets finalized

CI scoring datasets were completed to support growers' access to USDA funding programs and future carbon market opportunities.

Field-to-fuel exchange initiated

Downstream data exchange pilots began with ethanol partners, establishing a foundation for traceability.

Next-phase capabilities underway

Platform enhancements were initiated for 2025, including analytics, reporting and integration functionality.

The partner perspective

Designed around growers—not just reporting requirements.

The partnership brings NSP's relationships with U.S. sorghum growers together with Corvian's technology and operational delivery capabilities.

“With Corvian, we’ve created a system that works for farmers and helps position their farm for long-term success.”

Frequently asked questions

Understanding the NSP program

What did Corvian deliver for National Sorghum Producers?

A managed digital program combining customized FarmCommand® CI scoring workflows, producer training, subject matter support, data quality assurance and backend process management.

How quickly was the program launched?

The multi-state program was established in under five months and onboarded more than 400 sorghum producers.

How does the program support renewable fuel supply chains?

It collects field-level agricultural sustainability data and establishes a foundation for sharing that information with downstream ethanol partners. Data exchange pilots were initiated as part of the next phase.

Did the program complete carbon intensity scoring?

The 2024 CI scoring datasets were finalized. The case study describes their role in supporting access to USDA funding programs and laying groundwork for future carbon market participation; it does not report a quantified CI reduction or fuel credit revenue.
